In Ankara for talks with senior Turkish officials, Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff said his visit was a reflection on the close ties between the two countries in the area of counter terrorism and other areas.
Terrorism was a global threat that required a global response and a common position, Chertoff said during a press conference after meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Cemil Cicek.
When asked by a reporter to what extent al Qaeda targeted Turkey and the possible measures Turkey may take, Chertoff said Turkey was also a country that became a target to attacks of al Qaeda and other terrorist organizations in the recent years.
While he did not have specific information about any potential attack by al Qaeda against Turkey, the group continued to target countries that had democratic, free and common values, noting that it could be said that all democratic countries were potentially in risk, he said
