General Buyukanit, the chief of the Turkish General Staff, said late Tuesday that he, his wife and the General Staff had all opened court cases against Fikri Saglar, a former parliamentary deputy and newspaper columnist.
The article by Saglar alleged Prime Minister had presented a file to General Buyukanit during a meeting at Istanbuls Dolmabahce Palace earlier this month allegedly detailing reports of high spending by the generals wife.
The article went on to claim that Erodgan had used the dossier to pressure Buyukanit into not making any direct criticisms of the government.
Both General Buyukanit and the Prime Minister have stridently denied the claims made by Saglar.
I have been attacked many times, but never been attacked so meanly. None of them were so mean, Buyukanit said.
