Lawyers for the Buldan and Baykal families filed the case with the ECHR seeking to regain ownership of the land in the Yuksekova region, in the south east of the country and for their clients to be granted 250.000 euros for the breaching of their rights.
The plaintiffs opened a court case six years ago to regain control of 22,000 square meters land near the Iraqi border. The Turkish court ruled against the families, saying the area was not fertile land and was more suited to being used by the military.
The expert assigned by the Turkish court could only get to visit the area four years after the court case was opened.
